Skip Spann Connector
- First lighted bridge in Cobb County
- Reduced traffic congestion on Chastain Road by 19%
- Provides a third crossing option over I-75
The Skip Spann Connector created a four-lane road and 10-foot multi-use path over I-75, realigning Townpark Lane into a roundabout at Busbee Drive. Its most striking feature is the lighted bridge design that reflects the iconic shape of Kennesaw Mountain.
The Connector project represents a legacy of commitment and collaboration; its namesake, Skip Spann, was influential in developing the CID as well as KSU’s athletic program. The unique bridge design was selected through a local competition that comprised students from KSU, Chattahoochee Tech and Southern Polytechnic University.
This new connection is a step toward reaching our vision of connectivity throughout the district. It provides better access to Town Center at Cobb, KSU’s campus, residential properties, businesses, retail and entertainment destinations. With beautifying elements and pedestrian and bicycle improvements, it provides safer travel and reduces road congestion.

Pedestrians and bicyclists can expect major sidewalk improvements on Busbee Drive approaching this project. In addition, the Busbee Trail project will help increase connections and walkability as people travel from the heart of KSU’s campus to Fifth Third Bank Stadium and surrounding attractions.
